Cyberinet and Electronics

Approx. 6 minutes in duration

Completed April 2023 in Baton Rouge, LA

ImprovImpisaImptionImpprovisation in Reverb is a short improvisation utilizing the Cyberinet as the main instrument. The title represents the physical effect of trying to make a sound in a super boomy, reverberant space. This project utilizes the Cyberinet’s in-built sensors in order to control a reverb effect programmed into Max 8. The following Sensors are used to control the indicated effects:

  • Gyroscope: Room size

  • Accelerometer: Output Gain

  • Air Flow: Damping Frequency

Because of the improvisatory nature of the work, a score is not made for the performer, but general guidelines have been requested to be followed by the composer:

  • Start small and quiet

  • Gradually increase motions to increase effect

  • After approximately 4 minutes of general building, alternate between the effect extremes.

  • Gradually fade out the effect over the final minute.

These are just guidelines however and the performer is free to perform as they desire in that specific situation.
