Lover's Quarrel
2015: DeLand, Florida.
ca. 6 minutes.
Mixed Octet (2 Vocalists, English Horn, Clarinet in Bb, Horn in F, Harpsichord, (or Synthesizer with Harpsichord sounds) Vibraphone, and Cello)
This composition was my final project for my early composition classes. I conceived of this project as a mashing of two different quartets. I took the texts from the writings of William Shakespeare; specifically his 138th sonnet and the second act of The Merry Wives of Windsor. In this setting each vocalist is given a separate text and they sing as if they are having an argument with each other. Over the course of the composition the orchestration of the instruments varies between two separate trios and a larger sextet to help illustrate the level of conflict and resolution between the two characters.
