Mouse in the burner

2018: Boston, Mass.

ca. 2-3 minutes.

Any two Clarinets in the same key.

Premiered by Ashley Oliveto and Jason Russo at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee in 2018.

This piece was inspired by a true story involving a mouse getting into my city apartment kitchen one night during the winter of 2017. I use quiet extended techniques in the clarinet such as key clicks and blowing air into the instrument without pitch in order to simulate the sounds of a scurrying rodent and the gas in the stove being ignited. The full story can be read in the score's program note.
