“The Visitors heard our music and tentatively tried to join, but their instruments were not of this world. There were no survivors.”

This piece was written as the final etude for LSU’s MUS 7745 computer music class.

Created in Max8, this etude utilizes three different instruments created over the course of the semester.

• The backing noise was generated by the ANG~ object

• The audio processing was created by both the lazr~ object, Beap’s “Cloud” effect, and the liveArpeggiator~ object (created by Austin Franklin)

This etude begins with an iteration of a piano theme taken from the drafts of my work Almost Awake with the ANG~ effect in the background. for the remaining iterations the processing effects are brought in so that they slightly cover the original sound. The processing is eventually faded out so that only the ANG~ effect is heard at the very end.
